Haiti has been sinking into chaos for almost a month. This is not a coincidence but the result of the catastrophic governance of the Henry administration, closely supervised by the international community. Until the end of February, Ariel Henry was supported by the international community, which had designated him and given him full powers to lead the country after the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021. The gangs' offensive against the government served as a pretext for the supporters of Jovenel Moïse's successor to get rid of him. But so far, they have only been observing the Haitians who are suffering the consequences of the choice imposed on them.

Entire municipalities in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince have fallen into the hands of gangs. The prolonged closure of schools in these areas has become a secondary concern compared to people's difficulties in satisfying their daily needs such as eating and drinking. With businesses—bank branches, money transfer houses, food supply warehouses—looted and/or burned, everything has become scarce, leading to an increase in the cost of living.
