Reactions are multiplying following the publication on Friday, April 12, 2024, of the decree establishing the Presidential Transition Council. After CARICOM, it is now the turn of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) to react. "BINUH continues to closely monitor the Haitian political process that led to the publication on April 12 of the decree establishing the Presidential Transition Council," posted BINUH on X.
"We reaffirm our commitment to supporting the country's institutions in their efforts to restore democratic institutions," said the representative of the UN Secretary-General in Haiti, María Isabel Salvador. BINUH took the opportunity to emphasize international support for the Haitian National Police, which it says remains essential for restoring security and the rule of law in the country.
