The path begins to clear in the northern part of Toussaint Louverture International Airport on Thursday, April 18, 2024. After the destruction of about 180 houses adjacent to the northern perimeter of the airport, clear-up operations are underway. Several trucks have been observed transporting debris. Two armored vehicles are ensuring the security of the perimeter. While an apparent calm prevails from Clercine to the expropriation site, people are simply abandoning their homes out of fear.
It is 1:00 p.m., the street is still deserted around the Motorized Intervention Brigade (BIM) of the PNH. Mototaxi drivers parked around the Clercine public square refuse to venture into certain areas, regardless of the price. Yet, according to some residents, the heavy gunfire ceased several days ago. However, the atmosphere is intimidating despite the presence of an armored vehicle patrolling the road. "If you want to frequent the area, you'll have to walk. Be careful," advised a man sitting in front of an auto parts store. The few residents walking along the road are walking briskly. You can't see what's frightening, but you feel it.
