Since February 29, 2024, the country has been more on autopilot than under any other mode of management. It's not that the country was well-governed before, but there were authorities to whom one could complain or address grievances. Prime Minister Ariel Henry and some ministers have been held abroad for nearly a month and a half. The government has refrained from explaining to the nation what is happening. This proves that the country is on autopilot.
Although the Director General of the Haitian National Police, Frantz Elbé, has addressed the country twice since February 29, a response commensurate with the gang movement is slow in coming. In fact, this Thursday, gangs were on demonstration in Carrefour. Deaths and injuries among the PNH and the population have been reported. While the police are doing what they can to rout the gangs, the political climate is not helping. Since February 29, the political authorities overseeing the PNH, whether detained abroad or in the field, have kept a low profile.
