After the failed election of the CPT president, the council members now face the challenge of selecting a Prime Minister to lead the next government. This represents a second critical test for the Presidential Transition Council given the stakes involved. Nearly a hundred candidates are vying for this highly coveted position.

While the CPT promises to announce the name of the next head of government over the weekend, the objective criteria guiding this choice remain unknown. Although there is a draft decree regarding the operation of the CPT, nothing compels the council members to apply it in selecting the Prime Minister. It is worth noting that the council members arbitrarily decided that a majority of 5 out of 7 voting members would be needed to make decisions, contrary to the 4-member majority stipulated in the draft decree. They also opted for a rotating presidency instead of a single president for the council’s entire term. Moreover, the CPT has yet to publish the draft decree in the official journal, Le Moniteur. Thus, the council members have free rein to make decisions as they see fit and when they see fit.
