Preparations for the deployment of the MSSM are well underway. While the country eagerly anticipates this deployment to neutralize armed gangs, Amnesty International toook the opportunity to express its concerns about the lack of transparency in establishing human rights guarantees for the MSSM.

"The deployment of the security mission must be guided by transparency and human rights guarantees," recommended Amnesty International. In a public statement released on Tuesday, June 4, Ana Piquer, Americas Director at Amnesty International, stated that it is "imperative to ensure that any measures taken by this multinational mission, led by Kenya and supported by the United States and other countries, strictly comply with international human rights law, as required by the United Nations Security Council. A misstep in this area would be devastating for the rights of the Haitian people," she warned.
