The CARICOM Eminent Persons Group (EPG) left Haiti on Friday after meetings and discussions concerning the corruption scandal involving three members of the Presidential Transition Council (CPT), the state of the transition, and the lack of notable progress in security. They met with representatives from political organizations, the private sector, and human rights groups, Le Nouvelliste learned from multiple sources.
“The alleged corruption scandal is embarrassing for both us Haitians and the CARICOM Eminent Persons Group,” one source explained, emphasizing that “the CPT was opened to representatives from Pitit Dessalines, Ede de Claude Joseph, and the December 21 agreement in the name of broad consensus.” “Everyone is very embarrassed by this scandal,” another source insisted.
