Jacqueline Charles, a Pulitzer Prize finalist and Emmy Award-winning correspondent for Haiti and the Caribbean at the Miami Herald, has been honored with the 2024 Elijah Parish Lovejoy Award for Courage in Journalism by Colby College, as reported in the Miami Herald on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.

This accolade comes on the heels of her recognition at the Sunshine State Awards 2024 in Hollywood on Saturday. Colby College, a private liberal arts institution in Waterville, Maine, founded in 1813, awarded this seasoned journalist for her extensive reporting on Haiti, which includes coverage of the country's natural disasters, political turmoil, and health crises. The Lovejoy Award has been presented by the college since 1952. “With courage and compassion, Jacqueline Charles ensures that the turmoil in Haiti and its effects on the people remain visible to the world,” said Colby College President David Greene in a statement. “Ms. Charles has dedicated her career to exposing injustice and threats to humanity, much like Elijah Parish Lovejoy did.”
