Organizing honest and inclusive elections is among the missions of the Transitional Presidential Council (TPC) and the Conille government. Forming the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) is the first step toward these elections, which the country has awaited since the last ones in 2016. The formation of the CEP has already highlighted the difficulties in getting key sectors to agree on appointing their representatives to the council. The TPC had to issue an ultimatum to the conflicting sectors to reach an agreement. After August 26, the TPC reserves the right to make decisions on behalf of the warring sectors.

Is the TPC’s strategy proving effective? Last Friday, the Conference of Rectors, Presidents, and Leaders of Haitian Universities and Higher Education Institutions (CORPUHA) announced to TPC President Edgard Leblanc its decision to withdraw its representative from the CEP. This wise decision aims to avoid conflict with the State University of Haiti, which also designated a representative for the CEP formation. CORPUHA's decision will ease the TPC’s task by eliminating the need to choose between the two university representatives.
