At least 3,661 people have been killed since January this year, marking the highest levels of violence recorded since 2023, according to the latest figures documented by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), as reported in a dispatch from the UN's information agency on Friday, September 27, 2024. The update specifies that these numbers were revised after June, which was the period covered in the report to the Human Rights Council. "No more lives should be lost due to this senseless criminality," emphasized Volker Türk, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Multinational Security Support Mission
Mr. Türk commended recent measures, including the establishment of a Transitional Presidential Council, the formation of a new transitional government, and the deployment of the initial contingents of the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti (MSS).
