President Luis Abinader described the attack by armed gangs on a Spirit Airlines plane, hit by several gunshots as it approached Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince on Monday, November 11, 2024, as "an act of terrorism." The aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing at Cibao International Airport in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, according to the Dominican newspaper Listin Diario.
"This is an act of terrorism, and if the countries that monitor and assist Haiti do not declare these groups—these gangs, who shoot at an aircraft carrying Haitian citizens, or perhaps Americans or other nationalities, people visiting their families, totally innocent of any conflict—as terrorists, then I don’t know what they are. We consider them terrorist gangs, and if they come here, they know what awaits them. They must be declared as terrorist gangs, because that’s what they are,” he stated.
