Stakeholders from the March 1 consensus and signatories of the April 3, 2024 Agreement, the December 21 Agreement, the January 30 collective, EDE/RED, Pitit Dessalines, and other political entities, at the conclusion of a scathing critique of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), Fanmi Lavalas, and their allies—accused of seizing control of the government—and in light of the indictment of three members of the Council in an alleged corruption scandal, as well as the massacres at Wharf Jérémie and Petite-Rivière de l’Artibonite, have made proposals to “save” the transition. They invite “CARICOM to engage in talks between the ‘Presidential Councilors’ and the Stakeholders to observe the non-implementation of the April 3, 2024 Agreement and the expiration of the CPT’s mission,” according to a statement made public on December 13, 2024.
Proposals
“To save, while there is still time, this transition that has been severely undermined by the nine ‘Presidential Councilors’ prioritizing their personal interests over the public interest, the undersigned Stakeholders:
1.- Call on the non-indicted members of the CPT in the corruption scandal to dissociate themselves from the three ‘Presidential Councilors’ indicted in this scandal by taking political action that formally removes them from the institution.
2.- Invite the Eminent Persons Group of CARICOM, as a facilitator, to engage in talks between the ‘Presidential Councilors’ and the Stakeholders to observe the non-implementation of the April 3, 2024 Agreement and the expiration of the CPT’s mission,” the statement reads.
