“The impact assessment of the security crisis estimates the investment needs at 1.3 billion USD over the next two years to address immediate needs,” announced Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé during the virtual launch ceremony of the Rapid Crisis Impact Assessment (RCIA) report. The event gathered, among others, several government ministers, representatives from the World Bank, the IDB, the European Union, the United Nations system, business associations, and economists, on Monday, December 16, 2024.
The investment plan includes, among other things, 450 million USD, or 34%, for infrastructure; 388 million USD, or 29%, for security and the rule of law; and 386 million USD, or 29%, for social protection. Additionally, 150 million USD is allocated for financing essential projects and 110 million USD for access to basic services, explained Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, expressing gratitude towards development partners who supported the Haitian state in this evaluation conducted between July and October 2024. “For several years, the country has faced an unprecedented security crisis that has had negative economic, social, and humanitarian impacts,” stated Prime Minister Fils-Aimé, noting that this has worsened food insecurity affecting 5.4 million people. There are 700,000 internally displaced people, enumerated the new head of government.
