The healthcare system in the metropolitan area has been reduced to its bare minimum. There is a single public university hospital, the Hôpital Universitaire de la Paix, a few private centers with numerous limitations, and a few hospitals run by non-governmental organizations that operate based on the daily conditions dictated by armed gangs. It is in this context that the Bernard Mevs Medishare Project Hospital was vandalized and then set on fire between December 16 and 17, 2024.
