Under a sun that struggles to appear, the Port-de-Paix river, murky and with a reduced flow, innocently runs toward the sea. It is December 25, 2024, 8:35 a.m., and victims of the flooding that occurred between December 22 and 24 are desperately washing whatever the water did not carry away.
Throughout the city, some mourn their missing loved ones, others visit friends, some try to reorganize after the torrential rains, and others simply cling to the fact that they are still alive. In a few unaffected neighborhoods, restaurants and shops turn on their loudspeakers to mark this festive season, which offers little reason to celebrate.
