Early Thursday morning, in downtown Port-au-Prince, residents living near Champ de Mars heard gunfire along Saint-Honoré Street, extending to Sylvio Cator Stadium and passing through Rue de la Réunion.

“It was around 2 p.m. when we saw flames rising from the General Hospital building. Since I don’t live far, I went to Champ de Mars to see for myself. They set fire to a hospital that had already been vandalized multiple times. Besides the building, the hospital had already lost everything,” lamented an employee, a member of the hospital’s union, observing the scene from Champ de Mars.
