Journalist Israël Roger Claudy, a former correspondent for Radio Ginen and owner of a media outlet in Mirebalais, was kidnapped by the gang members who attacked the town on Monday, March 31, 2025. According to Rémy Joseph, Secretary General of Solidarité Journalistes Mirebalais, speaking on the Panel Magik show on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, a video posted online over the weekend showed Israël Roger Claudy and one of his brothers handcuffed by armed gang members, who falsely presented them as members of the Protected Areas Security Brigade (BSAP). Since then, no information has emerged about the journalist or his brother’s condition.

As for the other journalist, Jean Christophe Collègue, a former correspondent for Voice of America in Haiti, he remains missing to this day. According to Rémy Joseph, the last communication with Jean Christophe Collègue was on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. At that time, he informed his family members that he was hiding under a bed because of nearby gunfire. Mr. Collègue had refused to leave the village of Mont-Carmel, where he lived, said Mr. Joseph, noting that armed gang members set fire to several homes in that neighborhood.
