On April 17, 2025, the press office of the Presidency of the French Republic released a “Statement by the President of the Republic on the Relationship Between France and Haiti.”

In this statement — the first of its kind in the history of the two countries regarding the ransom imposed on Haiti in exchange for recognition of its independence — President Emmanuel Macron went further than all of his predecessors.
