Terrorists in Haiti Pose a Direct Threat to U.S. National Security Interests — What Can Be Done?

On Friday, May 2, 2025, the United States designated the Viv Ansanm gang coalition, whose members operate in the Ouest department, and the Gran Grif gang, based in the Artibonite department, as “transnational terrorist groups.”

“They (these gangs) pose a direct threat to the national security interests of the United States in our region,” declared Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a statement.
