If the Association of Petroleum Professionals (APPE) wrote to Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé to alert him about the widespread insecurity that directly threatens the continuity of essential economic activities in the country, Le Nouvelliste was able to speak with actors in the petroleum sector to assess the cost of the control exerted by armed gangs over all the transport routes entering and leaving Port-au-Prince.

Several sources interviewed by Le Nouvelliste reported an increase, since May 2, 2025, in the toll fees imposed by gangs at the Varreux oil terminal. "This toll at the terminal's exit has gone from 25,000 to 50,000 gourdes. This will affect the price structure in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince. But it's for getting to the provinces—in the Greater North, Upper Artibonite, and Upper Central Plateau—that the toll fees have skyrocketed since gangs took control of Mirebalais," a source who requested anonymity revealed.
