According to the director of the DIE, the opening of this new passport delivery center is part of the new administration’s efforts to project a new image of the institution. Antoine Jean Simon Fénelon expressed his commitment to presenting a different face of the DIE, following numerous corruption cases that have tarnished its reputation.

“The Directorate of Immigration and Emigration (DIE) has for too long been little known—if not known for the wrong reasons—by the general public. Its image has been distorted, sullied in public opinion, which often saw it only as an institution full of corrupt individuals, incompetents, extortionists, and even thieves. This poor image caused it to lose all credibility and prestige in the eyes of the public,” acknowledged Mr. Fénelon.
