The Cayemites Islands, Haiti’s far edge, located 35 kilometers east of Jérémie and elevated to the status of a commune in July 2020, are today completely abandoned by the Haitian authorities.

This community of approximately 18,000 inhabitants has neither a town hall, nor a police station, not even a single police officer. Only one justice of the peace struggles to maintain public order on these islands, where access to justice remains extremely limited.
