Haiti is undergoing a rapid and seemingly inevitable descent into hell. Entire sectors—territory, public administration, justice, economy, transportation, etc.—of the metropolitan area and the Artibonite region are under the control of ruthless gangs. The country is becoming a no man’s land, ruled by violence, all forms of trafficking, and a mix of madness and folly.

We are witnessing the grotesque spectacle of a sovereign state and an endearing society, endowed with a rich history, on the verge of disappearing under the calculated domination of criminals. The population has no alternatives: either submit to the abuses of the gangs or flee. As a result, more than a million people have become forcibly displaced.
