The Port-au-Prince prosecutor’s office, acting on instructions from the Ministry of Justice, has frozen the bank accounts of individuals sanctioned under United Nations resolutions.
In a press conference held on Tuesday, June 10, the head of the prosecutor’s office, Frantz Monclair, announced that a letter had been sent to the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC) and the Central Financial Intelligence Unit (UCREF), requesting that they open a financial investigation into these sanctioned individuals and their accomplices for money laundering, terrorism financing, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
"The Port-au-Prince prosecutor’s office is hard at work and urges the population to believe in their country’s justice system," stated Chief Prosecutor Frantz Monclair, emphasizing that the Haitian State is deeply concerned about the issue of sanctioned individuals, transnational criminals, victims of gang-related insecurity, and displaced persons.
