Divided, the members of the CPT had been glaring at each other like enemies for several months before engaging in a flurry of letters this week. On one side are the presidential advisers Louis Gérald Gilles, Emmanuel Vertilaire, and Smith Augustin; on the other are Fritz Alphonse Jean (coordinator of the CPT), Leslie Voltaire, Edgard Leblanc Fils, and Frinel Joseph.
At the heart of their division lies the distribution of positions in the public administration and diplomatic corps. Fritz Alphonse Jean blames the Minister of Foreign Affairs for appointing hundreds of “unqualified” individuals to diplomatic posts, and criticizes the Minister of Defense for refusing to send the signature specimen of the army chief to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
