On June 25, 2024, the first contingent of Kenyan police officers landed in Port-au-Prince. Faced with gang violence, the arrival of the 400 Kenyan police officers was well received by a significant portion of the population. No study or opinion poll was published to determine what percentage of the population supported or opposed the arrival of the Kenyans in Haiti. One year later, it is difficult to precisely assess the level of satisfaction or disappointment among Haitians regarding the work of the Kenyan police officers.
However, it is safe to say that the hope sparked by their arrival has faded. The promises made by Kenyan authorities to neutralize the gangs have yet to materialize. Nonetheless, unlike other contingents of the multinational force, the Kenyans have made their presence known alongside the HNP on the battlefield. Some even lost their lives or were injured in combat in Haiti. Still, the results on the ground are what they are. The security crisis is worsening. Territories under gang control are expanding, and the perimeters continue to grow—with all the consequences that follow.
