The Council of Ministers held on June 24 is perceived as a noteworthy event by public opinion, given how our highest state authorities had grown unaccustomed to meeting to seek solutions to the people’s problems. The coordinator of the CPT, Fritz Alphonse Jean, had himself acknowledged that he did not organize Council of Ministers meetings regularly, for reasons he mentioned. Strangely enough, it seems easier for our leaders to travel abroad and give speeches about the country’s problems than to sit in a Council of Ministers and devise strategies to solve them. A strange way to govern a country in chaos.
The June 24 Council of Ministers will stand as an exception during Fritz Alphonse Jean’s time at the CPT. It will also go down in history for its brevity, given the significant measures adopted in just 25 minutes, according to information obtained by the newspaper. For those who may not know, the draft decrees revising those of March 11, 2020, concerning the Penal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure, as well as the 2025 referendum decree, were adopted. Are these decisions just for show? Will the executive, through the CPT and the Fils-Aimé government, take steps to ensure that the decisions adopted during the June 24 Council of Ministers actually take effect?
