Just over a week after Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé’s visit to Washington, influential U.S. senators sent a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem requesting information on a contract between an American private military company and Haiti’s transitional government, as well as potential violations of the Leahy Law.
“According to recent information, an American private military company (PMC) is conducting armed operations in Haiti under an official contract with the country’s transitional government. This raises urgent questions about compliance with U.S. arms export laws, the risk of U.S. complicity in gross human rights violations, and fundamental contradictions in current U.S. foreign and immigration policy toward Haiti,” reads the letter dated July 24, 2025.
