The Dominican Republic has joined the list of Latin American countries seeking to gain ground in Washington through lobbying firms linked to the first Trump administration, according to an article in the Dominican newspaper Diario Libre.

According to a report by the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, a Washington-based think tank specializing in foreign policy, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and SMEs (MICM) hired Continental Strategy, LLC, a company founded by Carlos Trujillo, Trump’s former ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), for $330,000, the article reads. Documents filed with the U.S. Department of Justice (FARA) indicate that the strategic objective of the contract is to position the country as a preferred destination for industrial relocation (nearshoring) in response to tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on Mexico and China.
