It is increasingly evident that the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) will not be able to organize the referendum followed by elections this year. With six months left before the end of its mandate, the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) still has not managed to restore security in the country. What is its plan for February 7, 2026?
While most of the signatories of the April 3 Agreement state that there must be an alternative to the Presidential Council before February 7, 2026, the CPT members, for their part, are reportedly considering organizing a minimum election to elect a president before that date. The elected president would then have the responsibility, among others, of organizing the referendum, legislative, and municipal elections, a CPT member told Le Nouvelliste. But nothing has yet been decided.
