The president of AmCham and CEO of Port Lafito S.A. & Lafito Industrial Free Zone S.A., Andress Appolon, advocated for strategic partnerships with the Haitian private sector—resilient and operational despite reduced capacity due to insecurity, still maintaining jobs in the Haitian economy—during a cocktail event that brought together U.S. officials, members of the U.S. Congress, Korean and Dominican investors, and foreign diplomats at the Haitian Embassy in Washington, as part of efforts for the renewal of the HOPE/HELP Act, on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
“[…] Make no mistake: economic recovery and national security are two sides of the same coin. One cannot exist without the other. The Haitian private sector must be seen not only as a beneficiary of stability, but also as an essential partner in achieving it. We are ready. We are capable. And we are determined. But we cannot get there alone,” said the president of AmCham Haiti, which represents more than 100 Haitian and American companies operating in nearly every sector of the Haitian economy, from major public services and infrastructure to construction, local production, finance, tourism, and energy.
