Although the Council of Ministers, held exceptionally at the National Palace on Thursday, allowed the executive branch to announce certain measures aimed at organizing elections, the issue remains unclear within the Electoral Council. A source at the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) told Le Nouvelliste that the electoral institution is still unable to determine when elections might take place in the country and has not been informed of the changes made by the Presidential Council.

By announcing the adoption of a draft decree repealing the decree of July 24, 2024, which appointed the members of the Steering Committee of the National Conference, as well as the decree of September 2, 2024, which completed the said Committee, the Presidential Council officially abandoned its plan for a referendum. Without being able to set a date, the CPT stated in a note that it intends to create “the necessary conditions for the organization of free, credible, and transparent elections.”
