The Government of the Republic has launched a large-scale financial assistance program to support hundreds of thousands of Haitian families during the back-to-school period. A total of 6 billion gourdes has been mobilized under the Multisectoral Emergency Program (PUM), jointly managed by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST), the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP), and the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES).
Speaking on Magik 9 radio on Monday, October 13, FAES Director General Serge Colin detailed the aid distribution mechanism. According to him, the cash transfers target three priority categories: parents of students, representing 70 percent of beneficiaries (200,000 households); vulnerable families, numbering 55,333 (19 percent); and workers in the textile and domestic production sectors, totaling 31,500 (11 percent).
