Haïti Métal S.A., a company more than 75 years old, announced on October 14, 2025, that it was closing its doors. Victim of all kinds of attacks, the factory—which for decades produced everyday items for Haiti’s lower-income households such as cups, coffee pots, mugs, beds, and other metal goods—had provided stable employment for generations.
“Haïti Métal S.A. has been forced to halt its production operations following the kidnappings of members of its administrative and technical maintenance staff, and the brutal murder of its operations director, committed in front of her four-year-old daughter. Today, once again, it falls victim to the lack of vision and understanding of people who claim to be leaders of this country. Its production facilities, located in Thor 65, Carrefour — a ‘supposedly calm and secure area’ — after being extorted, are now under attack and being looted,” reads the closure statement.
