While the metropolitan area remains plunged in darkness, the Electricity of Haiti (EDH) issued an explanatory statement on November 10, 2025. According to the note released by the EDH’s communication department, the severe power shortage currently observed is due to the shutdown of the Péligre hydroelectric plant and technical problems faced by the E-Power plant.

According to the statement, “the severe rationing currently affecting the distribution of electricity is largely due to the unplanned shutdown of the Péligre hydroelectric power station, followed by the systematic sabotage of five pylons on the 115 kV transmission line that occurred on June 17.”
