“ In Haiti, 7% of the adult population lives with diabetes, that is about 470,000 people. Half of them are unaware of it,” declared the president of the Haitian Foundation for Diabetes and Cardiovascular Diseases (FADIMAC), Dr. Nancy Charles Larco, during an address in the conference room of the Ministry of Public Health, on the occasion of World Diabetes Day, Friday, November 14, 2025.

This year’s theme: “For diabetes prevention, we take the test, we take care of ourselves.” This theme resonates directly with the call of the FADIMAC president: “We cannot advise people to get screened if we do not start with ourselves.”
