The U.S. government announced on Friday a freeze on all decisions regarding the granting of asylum in the United States, along with other measures aimed at tightening its immigration policy, a direct consequence of the attack in Washington two days earlier that killed a servicewoman and seriously injured another.

The suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national who arrived in the country in 2021, is to be charged with murder, and federal prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty against him.
