“Haiti, a hub for drug trafficking” is the title of an article published by news.un.org. According to the United Nations, the “record seizure” of 1,045 kilograms of cocaine in July 2025 near Tortuga Island, off Haiti’s northern coast, during a maritime operation conducted by Haitian authorities, highlighted the “central role of this island nation in trafficking routes linking South America, the Caribbean and the United States.”
The seizure near Tortuga Island, the article emphasized, is “the largest drug seizure in the country in more than 30 years.” This shipment is believed to have originated in South America and, according to investigators, was intended for distribution in the Caribbean and the United States, the article states.
