The U.S. national security strategy defined by the Trump administration, inspired by hard-right ideals and clearly stating its opposition to so-called “mass immigration,” announces the unapologetic application of the Monroe Doctrine, summed up in a single phrase: America for Americans.

According to this strategy, presented in a 33-page document, in the chapter devoted to the Western Hemisphere—described as “the Trump corollary to the Monroe Doctrine”—it is stated that after “years of neglect, the United States will reassert and enforce the Monroe Doctrine in order to restore American preeminence in the Western Hemisphere and protect our homeland as well as our access to key geographic areas of the region.”
