With ten years of participation to her credit in the celebration of this great cultural gathering that is Artisanat en fête, Carline Sévère, CEO of Kafedore—a Haitian company specializing in jewelry making and in existence for thirteen years—offers a nuanced analysis of the event, combining recognition with concerns.
While praising Artisanat en fête as a major and commendable initiative, Ms. Sévère nonetheless believes that “it is important, even urgent, for the event to return to what it once was.” According to her, Artisanat en fête remains a privileged meeting space between artisans and the public, but its spirit goes far beyond that of a simple commercial fair. “It’s a package,” she explains. “In addition to the exhibitions, an atmosphere is created, allowing visitors to spend the day enjoying themselves while purchasing various products.”
