Despite major additions made by the CPT to the draft electoral decree, the Electoral Council is maintaining August 30, 2026, as the date for the first round of the presidential and legislative elections. The CEP officially published the electoral calendar this week, but sets out a series of prerequisites for the executive branch that condition the organization of the vote.

The Provisional Electoral Council has officially published the electoral calendar. The first round of the presidential and legislative elections will take place on August 30, 2026. While the CEP maintained this date, it was not for lack of attempts by the Presidential Council to modify the calendar in order to retain a certain degree of control over the electoral process. The nine members of the CPT will have to take part in the elections as ordinary citizens, since their mandate expires on February 7.
