Progress has been made in the fight against insecurity between March 2025 and January 2026, according to the Secretary of State for Public Security, Mario Andrésol. Invited to the program Panel Magik on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, the former Director General of the Haitian National Police (PNH) presented an assessment of government action against armed gangs, while acknowledging the challenges faced by law enforcement.

According to Mario Andrésol, upon taking office at the Secretariat of State for Public Security, one of his priorities was to create effective synergy among the different forces engaged in the field. “At that time, law enforcement needed leadership capable of helping them give their maximum,” he explained. However, this dynamic was not immediately possible due to misunderstandings with the then-serving Director General of the PNH, he acknowledged, without elaborating on the exact nature of those differences.
