A customs facilitation memorandum of understanding was signed on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the Montana Hotel, between the Minister of Economy and Finance, Alfred Fils Métellus, the president of the Association des industries d’Haïti (ADIH), Maulik Radia, and the president of the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie d’Haïti (CCIH), Jean Nathan Letang. This protocol, which is the result of a long process of exchanges and consultations between the State and the productive private sector, aims, among other things, to facilitate customs procedures in order to support national production, improve the competitiveness of local industries, and strengthen the national economy.
“For a factory, an input that remains blocked at the port has an impact on the production chain by slowing it down. This blockage also increases costs and sometimes even poses a threat to jobs,” the minister noted, stressing that a company cannot be competitive if it cannot access raw materials on a regular basis. In this sense, the head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) deemed it necessary to speed up and make the release of goods more predictable.
