The Conseil présidentiel de transition does not intend to back down from its plan to revoke Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, despite the clear and direct warnings from the international community and the threats issued by the United States Department of State. “The decision has been taken. In the context of seeking a Haitian solution to the crisis, the replacement of Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé was decided by a qualified majority of the CPT. An acting Prime Minister has been appointed for a period of 30 days to handle current affairs while awaiting an agreement on a new Prime Minister and a president. If by February 6, 2026 no solution is found, the CPT will propose an alternative,” presidential advisers Leslie Voltaire and Edgard Leblanc Fils stated at a press conference held at the Villa d’Accueil on Friday, January 23, 2026, without disclosing the name of the new acting Prime Minister.
“The decree appointing the acting Prime Minister will be forwarded to the National Press for publication this Friday,” the presidential advisers said, while nevertheless stressing that the CPT will step down on February 7, 2026.
