Nearly half a million Haitian nationals benefiting from Temporary Protected Status (TPS) are catching their breath following Judge Ana C. Reyes’s decision to block their deportation by the Trump administration on February 3, 2026. On the front lines of this battle are Guerline M. Jozef, hundreds of organizations, a small army of lawyers, activists, and politicians, and that handful of compatriots who put themselves squarely in the spotlight by carrying the banner at the heart of the legal fight. The question remains how long this reprieve will last. But one thing is certain: the battle continues.

“We don’t know how long this reprieve will last. But while Haitian nationals are catching their breath, we are not. The fight continues so that they can keep breathing,” Guerline Jozef, head of the Haitian Bridge Alliance, told Le Nouvelliste on Tuesday, February 3, 24 hours after the federal judge’s order blocking the Trump administration’s decision to end TPS, a protection against deportation for nearly 300,000 Haitian nationals.
