Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé now holds full powers and enjoys massive support from the Americans. An offshoot of the CPT and co-heir to the disastrous record of that council, Fils-Aimé benefits from a blank slate and a single objective: restore stability and organize elections in a pacified Haiti. Despite this baggage, the Prime Minister has the Americans’ confidence to carry the transition forward. The fact is rare enough to be underscored.
Now that the pressure leading up to February 7 has subsided, Mr. Fils-Aimé would be making a mistake if he failed to regard time as a precious resource. He therefore has the obligation to move quickly and effectively, fully aware that he is already at a turning point, because he is not entitled to a trial period.
