Haiti has just qualified for another edition of the FIFA U17 World Cup. As in 2025, the Haitian flag will fly in Qatar. A new opportunity for our young Grenadiers to measure themselves against the great footballing nations. A fine showcase for a country wounded by an unprecedented security crisis. Before the U17s, the senior men’s national team has a date with history in North America as part of the long-awaited FIFA World Cup. At the same time, the country is hoping for a positive outcome for the women’s national teams in the U17 and senior World Cup qualifiers.
In these times of great turbulence for Haitians, traumatized at home and pursued abroad, football is a true source of comfort and consolation. It brings us a measure of joy when everything else is heading toward the worst in other sectors. Against all odds, sport—particularly football—and, to some extent, culture have found the secret to keeping us standing. They allow our bicolor to continue to fly.
