Insecurity in the Lower Artibonite continues to paralyze economic and social life, particularly the agricultural sector, which is the backbone of the region. This is the assessment made by Bertide Horace, a human rights activist, who denounces the persistent grip of armed groups on the population. According to her, residents are still living under gang domination and are not free to carry out their activities, especially those related to agriculture.
“The gangs have destroyed all the agricultural infrastructure that existed,” she states, emphasizing that citizens are both direct victims of violence and of the gradual collapse of production structures.
