For the time being, although a revised budget is unavoidable with a focus on security and elections, no decision has yet been made on how to take advantage of the provision offered by H.R. 7148 Consolidated Appropriations Act 2026, the consolidated appropriations law for fiscal year 2026, promulgated on February 3 by President Donald Trump, authorizing the Government of Haiti to purchase defense equipment and services under the Arms Export Control Act (22 U.S.C. 2751 and following) for the needs of the Haitian Coast Guard.
“The Conseil Supérieur de la Police Nationale has not yet met regarding this facility because maritime coverage is planned with the Force de Répression des Gangs,” a government source told Le Nouvelliste. However, the source added, “we are analyzing all priorities and a revised budget is inevitable. It will prioritize security and elections.”
