Without providing context, on Thursday, March 12, 2026, the United States Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, posted a tweet: “Brutal gang leaders have taken control of Haiti, just off our shores. America should not have to act alone to end this chaos. Our neighbors have an interest and a responsibility to help us stop the violence in Haiti, as gangs traffic drugs and criminals to the United States, Europe, and South America. That is why we created the Gang Suppression Force — with UN support — to restore order,” the message reads.

The first elements of the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) are expected at the beginning of April 2026. For now, it is unclear whether this statement from Ambassador Waltz is a form of pressure to encourage the fulfillment of commitments or whether there are underlying difficulties. The U.S. talking points are not new.
